Rules

    All games will be played by FIBA rules with tournament modifications.

    Game Duration:
    2×16-minute stop time halves. Overtime will be TWO minutes (stop time). Pre-game warm-ups will last a minimum of FIVE minutes and the halftime break will be THREE minutes. The halftime break may be shortened at the discretion of the tournament organizers in order to keep the event on schedule.

    Teams will get TWO 60-second time-outs per half (no carry- over). One time-out will be given out for each overtime period. Time-outs must be called by the coach from the bench.

    All players will be allowed five personal fouls before they are disqualified. Bonus foul situation = two shots, will be shot on the EIGHTH team foul in every half.

    Games will not have an “official” shot clock. However, there will be a “referee’s thirty” in be given a 10 second warning should they appear to be intentionally stalling the game. We will be using a 8-second backcourt count.

    Tie-Breaker rules are as followed: 1 ) head-to-head. 2) point differential (max 20 points/game). 3) points against, 4) points scored

    All teams should bring their own warm-up balls. Teams will mutually agree to use one of their warm-up balls as a game ball.

    The first listed team in the draw is the home team and should wear their light coloured uniforms, unless one team does not have home and away colour uniforms. Coaches may make arrangements among themselves should this need to be altered for any reason. Teams MUST bring both uniform tops to all games if they have them.

    The tournament organizers do not play any role in the allocation of officials for the games.

    U10-U12: Man to Man defense only. No full court zone press or half court zone defense permitted. Coaches will be given warning on first violation. Any further violation will result in a bench technical foul. U13-U16: All defense allowed.

    Team coaches are responsible for the conduct and supervision of their players and fans/parents. Unacceptable behaviour may result in the person being banned from the gym for the remainder of the tournament.
  • 12
    All decisions made by the tournament director or site coordinator are final.

Ball Size:

  • Size 6 ball used for U13 Below Size 7 ball used for U14+
  • No restrictions on zone presses or defenses.
  • Full court presses are not allowed by leading teams up 20+ pts

Eligibility to Play:

  • Team is required to provide identification to all their players. Roster must provide prior to the game.

Spectators Code of Conduct:

GameChanger tournaments are all about the love for basketball and good sportsmanship in young players. Spectators play a crucial role in creating a positive environment. To ensure everyone has a fun and enriching experience, we ask all spectators to adhere to the following code of conduct:

Sportsmanship:

  • Respect everyone: Treat all players (from both teams), coaches, referees, tournament officials, and fellow spectators with courtesy and respect.
  • Positive cheering: Cheer on your child’s team enthusiastically, but avoid negativity towards the opposing team. Applaud good plays by both sides.
  • Accepting calls: Refrain from arguing with referees’ calls. Remember, they are doing their best to officiate the game fairly.
  • Gracious in defeat: Teach your child to accept losses with dignity and congratulate the winning team.
  • Role models: Remember, your child looks to you for guidance. Be a positive role model by demonstrating good sportsmanship throughout the tournament.

Communication:

  • Coach communication: If you have concerns about your child’s playing time or other coaching decisions, address them directly with the coach in a private and respectful manner after the game.
  • Focus on effort: Encourage your child to focus on their own effort and improvement, rather than wins or losses.

General Conduct:

  • Positive behavior: Refrain from using abusive language, yelling, or any behavior that disrupts the game.
  • Timeliness: Ensure you arrive on time for games so that all games run on schedule.
    Respect the venue: Dispose of trash properly and avoid damaging tournament facilities.
